Tumblr birthday!

Wow this blog is officially one year old now *^* it has survived infancy—

I think what Haru was scared of wasn’t competitive swimming, but the loss of freedom as a result of competitive swimming, because all he has been associating with it is constant practice, setting records, paying attention to times, training until injury, etc.
But with the Australian pool, he realized that going pro gives him both opportunities to swim on a larger stage (competitively as he’s always had a spark of inside him) and offers an aspect of freedom that he hadn’t realized before.
Rather than a dead on career choice like “I want to swim for pro teams,” I think what he’s realizing is that he just really wants to swim (and with an amazing stage like that too; Haru does find fun in competitive swimming because it’s thrilling, and while he couldn’t care less about performing well for the sake of fame and fortune, he does find competition alluring in a way, and it’s been shown throughout both seasons (don’t get why people still don’t acknowledge it?) and he is going to be able to swim for himself again)
So, he finds competition itself fun as long as he’s not burdened with constantly DOING WELL AND SETTING NEW RECORDS and having that being shoved at him as the only important aspect.
What he realizes in Australia is that competitive swimming is so much more than just times and stress, but that it is still the swimming that he loves (and it’d even be with Rin— the shining shoujo protagonist :’D).
So all of you, instead of mourning this “sudden development” that isn’t really sudden, as it’s been simmering beneath the surface this entire time, be happy that Haru has found his freedom and flight again, even if it took such a long time to realize.
